CY4Y @ Scouts

On May 6th, CY4Y were invited to go down to the Barnswood Scout Camp in Leek to oversee not only the fantastic activities they had planned over the Bank Holiday weekend, but to also interview the organizers of the group on how the event was planned out, how long they have been organizing events similar to what we went along to and how any of our listeners can get involved with such an exciting opportunity.

After the success the team had at the Avents Factory Showcase in Crewe the day before, Phillip Morrall and Dan Shaw went down to join the Scouts group to view and witness what went on during the course of the day. A whole range of activities were put on ranging from rock climbing to playing the African Drums, and creative pin making to tackling an obstacle course.

The Scouts organizers Fraiser Hoosten and Isaac Franklin (14) managed to catch our presenters for a chat about what went on over the weekend and when asked about what has been their favourite part of the weekend this is what they said, “I have enjoyed helping out the youngsters the most because it’s really fun to get involved with the other children, people you don’t even know and then you get to help them and even bond more with others.” Issac then followed up with the following, “I have also enjoyed helping out the other children but I have also enjoyed doing the jobs a normal scout does like collecting and chopping up fire wood, help cook and also keep the fire going at night.”

The guys then went on to talk about how others can join the scouts in the not too distant future and how much of an impact it does for young people’s social life and skills, and also what they have potentially gone on to do after serving their time in the group. The full interview will be played on CY4Y Radio during the weeks to come.

For anyone wanting to join the scouts, all they need to do is head to the website which is www.scouts.org.uk and search for the nearest group to your home and then just turn up at any of their venues and sign up because  then, you will be doing something good for you and others around you. So be Prepared!
